High-Density Microvalve Arrays for Sample Processing in PCR Chips.
Journal of Biomedical Microdevices, Vol. 3 No. 3, 2001, p.183-190.
Abstract
We have realized a microchannel network with integrated valves and
photodiodes. A microchannel network allows dynamic parallel processing of
nanoparticles with very high throughput. We have shown that both manipulation
and detection of particles with the integrated sensors and actuators are
possible. Valve densities of up to 300 valves / cm2 were achieved due to the
success in fabricating silicone rubber valve membranes with a thickness of only
3 mm. Particle sensing was integrated in such a device for the very first time.
Additional heaters allow controlling the temperature of the fluid in the
microchannel network. These heaters allow rapid thermal cycling of parts of the
fluidic network.
